Southampton

Nov 17 - arrived late at night and settled in to our hotel for 2 nights.

Once again we had  good location, across from a park and
within walking distance of downtown

a german Christmas Market was set up along the main
pedestrianized street

the carousel was there

chocolates shaped like tools, gears, horseshoes , tires, etc.

even a camera - as I am taking a picture of her wares, the
shop owner picks up a chocolate camera and says
"You take my picture, I take your picture"

then we went into a mall, and there are the tools again, this
time some of the silver coated - even had hooks, faucets,
chocolate salami rolls and chocolate cheese

what is that above the tower?

why it's Santa, making a trial run

in Canada we have the Dollar Store, in Englnd they have ......

Bell ringers

The anchor from the QE 2, Southampton was it's home port

Church of the Holyrood, erected in 1320, was known as the
sailors church for centuries, and served as a church until 1940 when it was bombed by German forces.  Since then it has been preserved and
dedicated as a memorial and garden of rest to the
members of the Merchant Navy
who served and lost their lives at sea

Memorial fountain dedicated to those lost in the Titanic disaster

period houses - not sure of the exact dates of these, but there are several buildings that date to the 13th to 15th century in the area

this seemed out of place in England, should be in Alberta or Texas

our hotel is the tall building

after supper, we went to see a live theater presentation of
Wind in the Willows at the Mayflower Theater, again,
within walking distance of the hotel

on our walk home we past this memorial to the officers of the Titanic - Southampton was the ships home port
